DigitalSignage.com SDK Overview

DigitalSignage.com is a hosted cloud platform operated by MediaSignage Inc., with an open REST API and SDK for developers. The SDK is the developer toolkit for building on top of the platform: automating account work, connecting signage to other systems, and extending what screens can show.

This page is an overview. The SDK is not published as a public npm, PyPI, Packagist or NuGet package, and third-party repositories that use similar names are not official. Developers receive the SDK and its documentation when API access is set up. Earlier versions of this page listed package names, versions and code samples that were not accurate; they have been removed.

What the SDK is for​

  • Automation: script the tasks you would otherwise do by hand in SignStudio.
  • Integrations: connect DigitalSignage.com to your back-office, POS, inventory or reporting systems through the REST API.
  • Custom on-screen content: build custom HTML components that run in SignPlayer, described in the developer guide.
  • White-label and multi-account: white-label branding and SignDashboard multi-account management are Enterprise features of the hosted platform.

How to get the SDK​

  1. Create an account (the free plan covers the first 3 screens) or use your existing account.
  2. Contact DigitalSignage.com at support@digitalsignage.com or toll-free +1-877-344-7446 and describe the integration you want to build.
  3. For white-label, multi-account and larger integration projects, ask about the Enterprise plan. Enterprise pricing is shown in the public price calculator.

Authentication, in general terms​

The SDK calls the same REST API described in the API overview, so it uses credentials issued for your DigitalSignage.com account. Keep those credentials on your server, never inside a web page or a component that runs on a public screen, and use a dedicated integration user with only the permissions it needs.

For IoT sensors, buttons and kiosk events on the same network as a screen, use SignService, the local API that runs on SignPlayer at https://SIGNPLAYER_IP:8094. It does not need the SDK. Endpoints and examples are in the IoT integration guide.

Do I need the SDK to connect sensors or buttons to a screen?​

No. IoT sensors, buttons and kiosk events talk to SignService, the local API that runs on SignPlayer at port 8094. A device on the same network sends an event with JSON data to the player, and SignStudio scenes bound to that event update.

Is the platform behind the SDK open source?​

No. DigitalSignage.com is a hosted cloud platform built in-house by MediaSignage Inc. The REST API and SDK are open to developers, so you can automate and integrate with the platform, but the platform itself is not open source. StudioLite, a former open-source studio, is discontinued.
